Multiple tornadoes touch down in Missouri and Illinois, causing destruction and fatalities

(KBSI) – A series of tornadoes swept through southeastern Missouri and southern Illinois, leaving a trail of destruction and debris.

In Missouri, an EF3 tornado touched down in eastern Stoddard County, causing significant damage and two fatalities. The tornado, which was 16 miles long and 200 yards wide, removed roofs from homes, damaged power poles and destroyed mobile homes.

Ten people were injured in the tornado, which also caused widespread damage to trees, outbuildings and homes.

In addition to the EF3 tornado, two other tornadoes touched down in Missouri. An EF1 tornado was reported in northern Scott County, causing damage to a detached garage and several trees. An EF2 tornado touched down in Cape Girardeau County, causing significant roof damage to a home and damaging several outbuildings.

In Illinois, an EF1 tornado was reported in southeastern Saline County, causing 90 mph damage. An EF2 tornado was also reported in southern Gallatin County, causing 115 mph damage.

Reports of wind damage and hail were also received from several counties in Kentucky, including Marshall, Livingston and Lyon counties.
