Illinois State Police launches task force to combat human trafficking
DECATUR, Ill. , (KBSI) — The Illinois State Police (ISP) has established the Illinois Trafficking Enforcement Group (ITEG), a statewide initiative to combat human trafficking.
In partnership with the Decatur Police Department, the McLean County Sheriff’s Office, and the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, ITEG aims to bring together local and state law enforcement agencies to fight human trafficking.
“Holding perpetrators accountable and providing support to victims requires a coordinated effort,” said ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly.
ITEG will operate from the new Investigative Support Operations Center (ISOC) in Decatur, equipped with cutting-edge technology to identify and apprehend criminals.
Key objectives of ITEG include:
– Investigating human trafficking cases: ITEG will focus on identifying and prosecuting traffickers, while providing support services to victims.
– Providing training and resources: The initiative will offer specialized training for law enforcement officers and provide resources for victims.
– Enhancing community engagement: ITEG will work with community groups and health organizations to raise awareness about human trafficking.
The Illinois State Police has been actively working to combat human trafficking since 2022, conducting monthly operations across the state and providing training to over 1,300 officers.
