Perry County School District #32 seeks applicants to fill board vacancy

PERRYVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) – The Perry County School District #32 Board of Education is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of board member Melissa Carroll. Carroll stepped down during the board’s Sept. 11 meeting at the Perryville Area Career & Technology Center.
Applications will be accepted until noon Oct. 2. Candidate interviews are scheduled for Oct. 6, with the board planning to swear in the new appointee at its Oct. 8 meeting. The appointed member will serve until the next school board election in April 2026. At that time, voters will elect a candidate to complete the remainder of the term, which runs through April 2027.
“Serving on the Board of Education is a meaningful way to give back to your community while helping shape the future for our students,” Board President Dominic Blythe said. “It’s a unique opportunity to serve your neighbors, strengthen our schools, and make a lasting difference in the lives of students in Perry County.”
Applicants must meet eligibility requirements under Missouri law, including U.S. citizenship, district residency, taxpayer status, a minimum age of 24, and residency in the state for at least one year. Candidates must not be delinquent on state or local taxes, have no felony convictions, not be a registered sex offender, and be in compliance with campaign disclosure requirements set by the Missouri Ethics Commission.
Letters of interest and completed application packets should be submitted to the District #32 administrative office, 519 N. Main St., Perryville. Application materials and interviews will be handled in open session in accordance with the Missouri Sunshine Law.

Heard a parent concern regarding Board Policy JCHD on medication drop-off and pickup.
Received a financial presentation from Mike Reik of Raymond James about potential bond issue options.
Approved program evaluations for food services, safety and emergency response, and transportation.
Heard a spring assessment report from Chief Academic Officer Jane Narrow on MAP testing, EOC exams, and ACT results.
Approved a proposal from the transportation department to auction surplus buses through Purple Wave, using proceeds to buy a new wheelchair lift bus.
