DELTA, Mo., (KBSI) — Ameren has donated $25,000 to the Cape Area Community Foundation to aid recovery efforts in Delta following an EF2 tornado that struck the town on April 2.

The funding will support the revitalization of public spaces, including potential upgrades to playground equipment and the creation of a community walking trail.

“Investing in the public park helps our community with our recovery by offering a renewed outdoor space for families and neighbors,” Delta Mayor Mary Jo Barlow said. “This incredible support from Ameren will have a lasting impact on our residents and the vitality of our community.”

Ameren Missouri deployed more than 450 personnel in the immediate aftermath of the storm, replacing about 200 damaged poles and rebuilding much of Delta’s electrical grid in four days. The work included the installation of stronger composite poles to better withstand future severe weather.

“Restoring power is an important step in the recovery process after any natural disaster,” said Russ Burger, Ameren Missouri’s Southeast Missouri division director. “But our commitment to this community goes beyond just the infrastructure. We’re proud to support the resilience of customers in the Delta community.”

The donation comes from the Ameren Corporation Charitable Trust, which funds philanthropic projects through corporate earnings. The Cape Area Community Foundation, an affiliate of Community Foundation of the Ozarks, serves as fiscal agent for the Cape Girardeau County Long-Term Recovery Committee.
