CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – The Southeast Metropolitan Planning Organization (SEMPO) is inviting the public to help shape the future of transportation across the Cape Girardeau region as it updates its Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP).
The 2050 MTP will guide transportation investments for the next 25 years, identifying and prioritizing projects involving roadways, public transit, and bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure in Cape Girardeau, Jackson, East Cape Girardeau, and nearby communities.
SEMPO officials say the update is essential to ensure the region’s transportation network continues to meet the needs of a growing population and economy while emphasizing safety, accessibility, and efficiency.
Two Public Open Houses will be held to share information and collect community input:
Cape Girardeau: Wednesday, Oct. 29 – Osage Centre, 1625 N. Kingshighway St., 4–6 p.m.
Jackson: Thursday, Oct. 30 – Jackson Civic Center, 381 E. Deerwood Dr., 4–6 p.m.
Attendees will be able to view displays, ask questions, and rank transportation priorities.
“Public input is vital to developing a Metropolitan Transportation Plan that truly reflects the needs of our communities,” said Alex McElroy, SEMPO executive director. “We encourage all residents to attend an open house and share their perspectives on the future of transportation in our region.”
An online survey will also be released in the coming weeks to gather additional feedback from residents who cannot attend in person.
SEMPO serves as the regional transportation planning organization for the Cape Girardeau urbanized area. For more information, visit SEMPO Home | Southeast Metropolitan Planning Organization.
