JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) – The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), in partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), has received grant funding from the Federal Highway Administration’s Wildlife Crossing Pilot Program to conduct a statewide study of wildlife-vehicle collisions (WVC).
The study will identify high-priority road segments across Missouri where wildlife-vehicle collisions are most common.
The goal is to develop targeted mitigation strategies to reduce collisions, improve roadway safety, and maintain wildlife habitat connectivity.
Researchers will rank priority areas and create site-specific recommendations for the top 10 locations, focusing on cost-effective measures that enhance safety for both motorists and wildlife.
Findings from the study will guide future infrastructure and safety improvement projects, supporting MoDOT’s mission to provide a world-class transportation system that is safe, reliable, and dedicated to serving Missouri travelers.
