PERRYVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — Perry County Emergency Management has partnered with the American Red Cross to begin forming a local Disaster Action Team, marking a new step in strengthening emergency response efforts in Perry County.
The county hosted its first Red Cross training session Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Perry County Joint Justice Center. Fourteen participants took part in the training, which was facilitated through Perry County Emergency Management.
Officials said the effort is aimed at building a team of trained volunteers who can respond quickly to emergencies such as house fires, severe storms, flooding and other disasters affecting county residents.
A Disaster Action Team is made up of community members trained and certified by the American Red Cross to provide immediate assistance following disasters. Volunteers may help with temporary shelter, emergency supplies and support services for families in crisis. Once certified, team members may also be called upon to serve beyond Perry County when needed by the Red Cross.
“Perry County is committed to ensuring our residents have access to timely, reliable help during emergencies,” said Emergency Management Director Patrick Naeger. “By working with the American Red Cross to establish a Disaster Action Team, we are investing in a stronger, more prepared community.”
County officials thanked the American Red Cross for providing instruction and resources to support the development of the local team.
Residents interested in volunteering are encouraged to consider joining the Disaster Action Team. Volunteers will receive training and ongoing support through the American Red Cross and will play a key role in assisting neighbors during emergencies.
