Rural Health Inc. offers scholarships to area high school seniors pursuing healthcare careers

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS (KBSI) – Rural Health Inc. is funding and administering eight $1,000 healthcare scholarships for qualifying high school seniors in Johnson, Massac and Union counties.

Rural Health Inc. said one scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from each of the following schools: Anna-Jonesboro, Cobden, Dongola, Goreville, Joppa, Massac County, Shawnee and Vienna high schools.

The scholarships are intended to recognize students who plan to pursue careers in healthcare.

To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled at one of the listed high schools, reside in Johnson, Massac or Union counties, complete high school requirements by spring 2026 and rank in the top 30% of their graduating class. Applicants must also plan to pursue a healthcare-related degree or certificate at an accredited college or university.

Recipients will be required to provide proof of enrollment at an accredited institution before receiving the award. Scholarship funds will be issued directly to the student and may be used for college-related expenses.

Application packets are available through school guidance counselors. Homeschooled students may obtain an application by contacting Rural Health Inc. at 618-833-4471. Completed applications must be returned to a guidance counselor or Rural Health Inc. by March 6, 2026.

Rural Health Inc. is a nonprofit, federally qualified health center serving Johnson, Massac and Union counties. The organization provides healthcare services to patients regardless of ability to pay and focuses on improving access to care for underserved populations.
