WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — A suspect was taken into custody Wednesday evening following a brief standoff in Marion, according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies executed an arrest warrant for Seth A. Basler about 6:26 p.m. Feb. 4, 2026, in the 1200 block of Abbey Lane. Authorities said Basler had recently drawn public attention after social media live videos showed what officials described as erratic behavior.
The arrest warrant stemmed from an investigation by the Herrin Police Department involving alleged threats made by Basler to harm clergy and schoolchildren. Investigators also determined Basler allegedly made threats to harm or kill several government officials.
Deputies attempted to take Basler into custody, but officials said he refused to exit his residence. After about two hours of negotiations, deputies entered the home and took Basler into custody without further incident.
Basler was transported to the Williamson County Jail, where he was remanded into custody. Additional charges are anticipated.
The sheriff’s office thanked the Herrin Police Department, the Marion Police Department and Ted Hampson for their assistance.
