CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Students at Lutheran schools in Cape Girardeau turned service into action during National Lutheran Schools Week by participating in a community service project to support residents in need.

In about 40 minutes, students packaged more than 3,000 food and hygiene items, along with more than 100 pounds of dog food. The project was led by teachers at Trinity Lutheran School, including Ashley Kelley and Ellen Holford.

All donated items will go to Street Level, an organization that serves individuals and families in need throughout Cape Girardeau.

Organizers said the project provided students with a hands-on lesson in service, showing that even at a young age, everyone can contribute in meaningful ways to help the community.
