CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Southeast Missouri State University will host its annual SEMO Giving Day on March 19, encouraging alumni, students, faculty and supporters to contribute to scholarships and campus programs.
The 24-hour fundraising event supports the university’s Transforming Lives campaign and has a goal of raising $360,000 for scholarships, academic programs and campus initiatives.
“I am excited to see the impact,” said Kristen Seabaugh, annual fund coordinator for University Advancement. “Seeing the SEMO community come together and support students in real time shows how each gift contributes to opportunities and experiences that shape students’ futures.”
Giving Day activities will begin the evening before with SEMO Alumni Night in St. Louis on March 18, where alumni will gather for food and fellowship while celebrating their connection to the university.
On the morning of March 19, the university will host a free Grab N’ Go Breakfast from 7 to 8:30 a.m. in Kem Statuary Hall inside the Wehking Alumni Center. The event is open to the public.
Supporters can also participate by serving as Giving Day social ambassadors, sharing information about the campaign on social media and encouraging others to donate. The ambassador who inspires the most gifts will receive a SEMO-themed prize basket.
A returning Giving Day tradition will allow participants to “Name a Squirrel,” a lighthearted activity inspired by the squirrels commonly seen across campus.
Donors can choose to support a variety of university initiatives, including specific programs, departments or student-focused funds.
More information about SEMO Giving Day or how to donate is available at SEMO Giving Day.
