PERRY COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) — Perry County officials welcomed dozens of local students Monday for the county’s annual Government Day, offering a hands-on look at how local government operates.

The event, hosted by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 133, brought together 36 students from Perry County School District 32, St. Vincent Schools and Saxony Lutheran High School.

Students toured several county facilities, including the Perry County Joint Justice Center, the historic courthouse and the administration building.

They also shadowed county officials to learn about daily responsibilities in public service.

The program included a presentation on the construction of the Joint Justice Center, a flag-folding ceremony conducted by members of the American Legion Honor Guard and a lunch provided by the auxiliary.

County officials said the nearly 70-year tradition is designed to give students a behind-the-scenes look at local government and inspire future community leaders.
