FRANKFORT, Ky., (KBSI)— The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is warning residents about a new wave of text message scams impersonating driver licensing offices and the Office of Highway Safety.

Officials said the messages may include links and requests for payment but emphasized they are not legitimate. The agency does not collect traffic ticket fees through text messages or online links.

Residents who receive such messages are urged not to click on any links. Those who may have provided personal information are advised to contact their bank immediately.

Scams can be reported through the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov, the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov and the Kentucky Attorney General’s website at ag.ky.gov/scams.

Officials also encourage residents to visit stop scams for information on how to recognize and report scams.
