GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) — A Graves County man was arrested Monday morning after deputies responded to a disturbance call on U.S. Highway 45 South.
The Graves County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched shortly after 6 a.m. near Pryorsburg after reports of a man screaming for help in the roadway.
When deputies arrived, they identified the man as Joseph L. Brown, 37, and said he appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Authorities said Brown resisted arrest, spat at one deputy and kicked another.
After being taken into custody, Brown allegedly caused about $1,400 in damage to a patrol vehicle, officials said.
Brown was initially charged with two counts of third-degree assault, public intoxication, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.
Detectives later obtained a search warrant for Brown’s residence on Old Macedonia Church Street, where they said they found methamphetamine, marijuana, Suboxone strips, drug paraphernalia and electronic scales. Authorities also reported recovering a loaded .380-caliber handgun. Officials said Brown is a convicted felon and is not permitted to possess firearms.
Investigators also found a baby owl in a cage without food or water. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources responded and took custody of the animal. Additional charges related to that investigation are pending.
Brown faces additional charges, including trafficking in marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to an out-of-county detention facility.
