KENTUCKY (KBSI) – The Kentucky State Police has completed joint air search and rescue training with state and emergency response partners aimed at improving coordination during critical incidents.

The training, conducted in partnership with the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management and Kentucky Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 1, focused on enhancing unified response efforts during disasters and rescue operations.

Officials said the Bell 429 Hoist Transition Course was held April 20-25 at the Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center. The course, led by Priority 1 Air Rescue, trained flight crews on advanced hoist systems, precision hoisting and victim extraction techniques.

Gov. Andy Beshear said the training supports the state’s commitment to public safety and ensures emergency responders are prepared for complex rescue situations.

Officials said the training also helps standardize communication and safety procedures between air and ground crews during emergencies such as floods, tornadoes and wilderness rescues.

The exercise marks part of KSP’s ongoing efforts to modernize its aircraft fleet and expand rescue capabilities.
