PERRYVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — The American Red Cross of Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas partnered with the Perry County Emergency Management Agency and the Perryville Fire Department to install free smoke alarms during a home fire safety event Saturday in Perryville.
Volunteers and firefighters visited several mobile home communities, including Three Lakes Capital LLC and Brown Family Enterprises, as part of the national “Sound the Alarm” campaign.
Officials said crews installed 24 smoke alarms and helped 80 residents, including 35 children, create home fire escape plans. Participants also received safety information about tornadoes and flooding.
The event was part of the American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign; a national initiative aimed at reducing fire-related deaths and injuries through smoke alarm installations and fire safety education.
Michael Sullivan, executive director of the Red Cross of Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas, said home fires remain one of the most common disasters affecting local communities.
Residents who were not home during the event and still need smoke alarms can contact the Perryville Fire Department or request assistance through the Red Cross website.
