ZEIGLER, Ill., (KBSI) — A Zeigler man was arrested on drug and weapons charges after a traffic stop involving a bicyclist late Tuesday night.
According to Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon, a deputy stopped a bicyclist near South Main and Linden streets at approximately 11:54 p.m. June 3.
The bicyclist was identified as Luke A. Neeley, 34, of Zeigler. During the stop, Neeley told the deputy he was on probation for a burglary conviction in Tennessee, authorities said.
Deputies requested assistance from K-9 Stryker and his handler. The sheriff’s office said the dog alerted to the presence of narcotics during a free-air sniff of Neeley’s bicycle and backpack.
A search allegedly uncovered methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and firearm ammunition.
Neeley was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was transported to the Franklin County Jail, where he remains in custody.
An arrest or criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
