Hot and Humid Thursday, Storm Chances Overnight
Another hot and muggy day awaits the Heartland on Thursday as highs will once again try for the lower 90s.
A couple of showers may try to make their way into the viewing area later this evening, but the greater concern will be Thursday night into Friday morning. You can find the latest timing in the run of StormCast above. A few storms may be severe.
We start out mild with overnight lows ranging from the lower to middle 70s for the viewing area.
Wednesday evening into Thursday morning will feature mostly clear skies in Cape Girardeau with a south-southwesterly breeze.
Highs will climb to the lower and middle 90s for the Heartland as winds pick up out of the south and southwest.
Heat indices will reach the triple digits for most by Thursday afternoon as well. Be sure to hydrate and take frequent breaks from strenuous work outdoors.
As chances for storms increase heading into Monday, there is the potential for isolated to scattered severe storms. A Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) is in place for our northwestern counties and a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) for our southeastern counties on Thursday. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main concerns in these storms.
After Thursday, high temperatures return closer to normal for the foreseeable future. Daily chances for showers and thunderstorms continues through the start of next week. Severe weather potential will continue to be monitored.
