CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Community Counseling Center Foundation has received a grant from the Cape Area Community Foundation to help expand suicide prevention training across Southeast Missouri.

The Community Counseling Center Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports the Community Counseling Center’s mental health and substance use disorder services, was among the recipients in the Cape Area Community Foundation’s most recent grant cycle.

According to the organizations, the funding will help sustain and grow the QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Suicide Prevention Training initiative. The evidence-based program teaches community members how to recognize warning signs of suicide and connect individuals in crisis with professional help.

Grant funds will be used to cover training materials, participant booklets, resource cards and the certification of additional instructors, allowing the program to remain free for residents, businesses and civic organizations throughout the region.

The Community Counseling Center serves a five-county area in Southeast Missouri.

The Cape Area Community Foundation has partnered with the Community Counseling Center Foundation since 2016.
