CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — A Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office deputy recovered more than five pounds of suspected illegal drugs, a firearm and thousands of dollars in cash during an investigation earlier this month.
According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy spotted a dark-colored Mercedes-Benz around 8:56 p.m. June 21 near Southern Expressway and Southwest End Boulevard. The vehicle was later found parked at a closed business on Corporate Circle.
The driver, identified as Lamarcus Williams, exited the vehicle and approached the deputy. During the investigation, Williams told the deputy he was not on probation or parole, but a records check showed he was on federal probation.
Deputies said they observed a substance near the driver’s side of the vehicle that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, as well as additional suspected methamphetamine inside the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of approximately 4.4 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, 1.1 pounds of suspected cocaine, a loaded Glock 27 .40-caliber handgun, packaging materials commonly associated with drug distribution and U.S. currency.
Authorities said Williams attempted to flee on foot and resisted officers while they were preparing to search him. Deputies later recovered approximately $6,610 in cash from his person. Investigators also determined Williams is a convicted felon.
The Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Williams with:
* Second-degree drug trafficking, a Class A felony.
* Second-degree drug trafficking, a Class B felony.
* Unlawful possession of a firearm, a Class B felony.
* Unlawful use of a weapon, a Class E felony.
* Resisting arrest, a Class E felony.
Williams is being held at the Cape Girardeau County Jail without bond. The Cape Girardeau Police Department assisted with the investigation.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
