Fireworks injuries spike around Fourth of July, Missouri officials warn

MISSOURI (KBSI) – The Missouri Division of Fire Safety is urging residents to practice caution with fireworks ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, when the majority of fireworks-related injuries occur.

According to the agency, 288 of Missouri’s 358 fireworks-related emergency room visits in 2025 — about 81% — occurred between June 21 and July 11. Of those injured, 42 people were admitted to hospitals for treatment.

State officials encourage Missourians to follow fireworks safety precautions and attend professionally organized public displays whenever possible. They say public fireworks shows are the safest option and often provide the most elaborate displays.

Officials also remind residents that laws governing consumer fireworks vary by community and encourage people to check local regulations before using them.
