JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KBSI) — The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has approved a $13 billion transportation improvement plan outlining highway, bridge, airport and other infrastructure projects across the state over the next five years.
The Fiscal Year 2027-2031 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program, or STIP, includes projects scheduled from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2031. Officials said it is one of the largest transportation plans in Missouri history and includes additional funding approved by the Missouri General Assembly and signed into law by Gov. Mike Kehoe.
The plan allocates $9.3 billion for road and bridge construction contracts, averaging about $1.8 billion annually. Funding also supports improvements to Interstate 70, Interstate 44, airports and other transportation infrastructure.
The STIP includes planned improvements to Missouri’s 33,814 miles of highways and more than 10,400 bridges and culverts. It also outlines investments in public transportation, aviation and operations and maintenance projects.
The Missouri Department of Transportation released a draft of the plan for public review in May and received 65 public comments before the commission approved the final version Wednesday.
