WATCH: Authorities say arrest made after four deaths in Northeast Nebraska town

LAUREL, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska State Patrol says it has made an arrest early Friday morning in connection to four deaths in Laurel, Neb.

NSP will hold a press conference Friday morning at 9:30 to discuss further details in the investigation.

Just Thursday night, Authorities said they suspected gunfire was involved at both crime scenes.

Around 3 a.m. on Thursday, callers reported hearing an explosion at a home in Laurel, which is west of Sioux City, Iowa.  One person inside the home was found dead, according to the patrol.

While crews were responding, a second fire was reported three blocks away from the first home.

Three people were found dead inside that home, Patrol Superintendent John Bolduc said. Fire investigators believe that the fire started around the same time as the explosion, according to the patrol. But no signs of the blaze could be seen from outside the home for hours.

The investigation is in its early stages, but Bolduc says foul play is suspected.

Bolduc said a man was seen heading west on Highway 20 and could possibly have picked up a passenger before leaving town.

Investigators believe the suspect or suspects could have burns, as accelerants were believed to have been used in both house fires.

The patrol urges anyone who saw anything out of the ordinary in Laurel between midnight and 4 a.m. to report it immediately.

Authorities are also asking for surveillance footage from the public.
