3 arrested after traffic stop turns to drug bust

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – Three people were arrested and face drug charges after a traffic stop early Friday morning in McCracken County.

McCracken County Deputy Sheriff Zach Kimbler conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Kreb Station and Old Mayfield roads on Friday, May 5 around 3:39 a.m. after seeing a vehicle cross the center line multiple times, according to the sheriff’s office.

Steven Holmes, 35, of Mayfield faces charges of trafficking in a controlled substance-methamphetamine, possession of a 1st degree-controlled substance-morphine, possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree-Xanax and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lisa Higgins, 53, of Paducah faces charges of trafficking in a controlled substance-methamphetamine, possession of a 1st degree-controlled substance-morphine, possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree-Xanax and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Paul Hayes, 53, of Mayfield faces charges of trafficking in a controlled substance-methamphetamine, possession of a 1st degree-controlled substance-morphine, possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree-Xanax and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Higgins was identified as the driver of the vehicle. Holmes and Hayes were also in the vehicle.

During a roadside investigation, deputies searched the vehicle. Deputies found methamphetamine and a syringe, according to the sheriff’s office. One of the occupants of the vehicle, Steven Holmes, had concealed a bag of drugs inside his pants during the stop, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies found about two ounces of crystal methamphetamine, morphine pills, Xanax pills, and assorted drug paraphernalia inside the bag, according to the sheriff’s office.

The deputies also seized money believed to be proceeds of illegal drug sales.

Higgins, Holmes, and Hayes were arrested and taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail.

Deputy Zach Kimber was assisted by Corporal Brad Lamb and K-9 Vegas.
