3 face weapons charges after traffic stop in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – Three men faces charges after Carbondale police say they had illegal firearms.
A Carbondale police officer stopped a vehicle in the 500 block of East Main Street for a registration violation on Saturday, February 25 at 5:08 p.m.
All three people in the vehicle were found to be illegally in possession of firearms, according to the Carbondale Police Department.
One of the firearms was also determined to be stolen, according to police.
Johnie D Harrington, 32, of Cambria faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and improper display of registration.
Dontae J. Smith, 28, of Carbondale faces charges of possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a stolen firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Dayshawn M. Holmes, 25, of Carbondale faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a weapon by felon, and resisting or obstructing a peace officer. Holmes is accused of attempting to run from the traffic stop on foot.
Harrington, Smith and Holmes were taken to the Jackson County Jail.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
