MIAMI (KBSI) – Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche is expected to travel to Miami on Wednesday for an announcement connected to a memorial ceremony marking the 1996 Brothers to the Rescue shootdown.

The incident involved two civilian aircraft that were shot down by Cuban fighter jets, killing four people.

There is growing speculation that the U.S. Department of Justice could announce criminal charges against former Cuban leader Raúl Castro, a case that has reportedly been under consideration for decades.

Others expected to participate in the announcement include U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones, FBI Deputy Director Christopher G. Raia, U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody and James Uthmeier.

The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern in Miami.
