Blanchard and Clippard Elementary schools receive new communication boards

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Blanchard and Clippard Elementary Schools received a new communication board from Center for Speech and Hearing Clinic at Southeast Missouri State University Wednesday morning.

The boards will help the students with special needs to communicate with teachers.

The children with hearing and speech needs will be able to simply point to the board of what they are trying to communicate.

Instead of bringing their technology gear out to the playground, this allows for a more enjoyable experience for recess.

“Today SEMO is donating a communication board for us to use on our playground, we have a lot of students here that use communication devices, so this is going to be accessible for them to use when they are playing with their peers,” Rachel Hearnes, speech pathologist at Clippard Elementary, says the boards will help in keeping speech technology from getting ruined on the playground during play time.
