Cape Girardeau building tenant cited 12 times by police

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A tenant in a building on Independence Street in Cape Girardeau has been given several citations for peace disturbance and related citations.

Since June 2022, the Cape Girardeau Police Department has received 13 calls for service for the property of 1621 Independence in reference to peace disturbance, suspicious activity, traffic hazards and trespassing. Nine of those incidents resulted in a written report completed.

During the course of these investigations, officers issued seven citations per Cape Girardeau City Ordinance Section 5-14, “Operating an after-hours club”, one citation per Cape Girardeau City Ordinance 17-183, “Peace Disturbance” and four citations of various licensing violations.

The current tenant of 1621 Independence, Keith McFerren, has received these citations and is currently going through the court system, according to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department has also reached out to the property owner in an attempt to resolve the issue.
