MAYFIELD, Ky. (KBSI) – The city of Mayfield has been awarded nearly $7.3 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

An EF4 tornado made impact on December 10, 2021. It was the deadliest December tornado outbreak on record with 89 reported deaths, according to the National Weather Service.

The city was awarded $7,274,699.13 from FEMA for the City Hall/Police facility.

The city is using the Alternate Procedures 428 Program. It allows the city to change the original scope of work. The program requires the applicant to have a completely new scope of work before all of the construction dollars can be accessed.

Given these requirements, FEMA has obligated $1,391,531.20 for architecture and engineering costs to develop the new scope of work.

Once the new scope of work has been completed and approved by FEMA, the additional money will be released for the city to start construction.

Mayfield Mayor Kathy O’Nan says this money is part of $7 million awarded to help rebuild. She says while this is a positive step, architectural and engineering studies must be approved before rebuilding can begin.
