Families thriving together workshop coming to Jackson Civic Center June 23

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) —The Community Counseling Center will host its first “Families Thriving Together” workshop on June 23 at the Jackson Civic Center.
The daylong event is designed for teens ages 13-17 and their parents or caregivers. Organizers say the workshop will include a keynote address, breakout sessions, lunch and interactive activities focused on mental health, social media and family connection.
Parent or caregiver attendance is required for teens to participate. Capacity is limited to 50 registered teens, with up to two parents or caregivers allowed per teen.
The workshop begins at 10 a.m. with a presentation titled “Digital Detox: How Smartphones and Social Media Impact Mental Health — And How to Reclaim Well-Being,” presented by Josh Varner.
Breakout sessions scheduled from 11 a.m. to noon include “It’s a Lot: Navigating Anxiety as a Teen Today” for teens and “Raising Teens in Today’s World: Bullying, Social Media, and Modern Challenges” for parents and caregivers.
Lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m., followed by an interactive session for teens and caregivers from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 23 at the Jackson Civic Center. Registration is available through the event’s QR code.
