Fire damages vacant home in Cape Girardeau County

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — Firefighters from multiple departments responded Friday morning to a residential fire in the 6900 block of State Highway 34.
According to the Gordonville Fire Protection District, crews were dispatched at approximately 7:08 a.m. on automatic aid to assist the Millersville Fire Protection District with a first-alarm structure fire.
While en route, firefighters were advised of heavy fire and smoke conditions and that the residence was believed to be vacant.
Upon arrival, crews found the structure heavily involved in fire and began efforts to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby outbuildings.
About 10 minutes after firefighters arrived, a portion of the home’s second floor and roof collapsed, prompting incident commanders to request a countywide tanker alarm for additional water resources.
No injuries were reported.
Gordonville Fire Protection District personnel assisted with water supply operations and overhaul efforts. Crews cleared the scene at approximately 10:20 a.m.
The cause of the fire has not been released.
