MURRAY, Ky., (KBSI) — A former Murray Police Department sergeant has been indicted on 30 sexual offense charges following a Kentucky State Police investigation.

According to KSP Post 1, a Calloway County grand jury returned the indictment June 26 against Justin Swope, 44, of Almo.

The indictment includes charges of unlawful transaction with a minor, promoting a sexual performance by a minor, third-degree sodomy, third-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse.

KSP said additional details were discovered during the investigation into allegations involving Swope, who met the victim in 2018 while serving in his official capacity as a Murray police officer. The victim was 15 years old at the time, according to investigators.

Swope was originally arrested May 20 after KSP said the Murray Police Department requested an independent investigation into allegations against one of its officers. He was initially charged in connection with offenses in Calloway and Trigg counties.

KSP said Swope has since resigned from the Murray Police Department. A warrant related to the new indictment was served while Swope remained incarcerated at the Marshall County Detention Center.

The investigation remains ongoing by KSP Detective Sgt. Brian Hill.
