JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — Gov. Mike Kehoe is calling for Missouri to phase out its individual income tax, arguing the move would help the state remain competitive and support rural communities.

In an opinion piece published in the June issue of *Missouri Soybean Farmer* magazine, Kehoe said Missouri’s agricultural industry demonstrates the importance of adapting to changing conditions and that the state should take a similar approach to economic growth.

“If we are serious about building a foundation for growth, to compete rather than be complacent, then we must begin the work now to phase out Missouri’s individual income tax,” Kehoe wrote.

The governor said strengthening rural communities is key to Missouri’s long-term economic success and competitiveness.

The opinion piece appears in the June edition of *Missouri Soybean Farmer* magazine.
