MAYFIELD, Ky. (KBSI) — The Graves County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the unexpected death of Brett Miller, a Kentucky State Police sergeant and former Graves County deputy sheriff.
The sheriff’s office said it learned Wednesday, July 1, that Miller had died unexpectedly.
Miller began his law enforcement career with the Graves County Sheriff’s Office in 1999. After a brief tenure with the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office, he returned to Graves County before joining the Kentucky State Police in 2005.
During his time with the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, Miller served as a patrol deputy and school resource officer at Graves County High School. He also coached football and was known for his love of animals.
As a Kentucky State Police sergeant, Miller continued working closely with the Graves County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies across the state as a crime scene technician and canine handler. The sheriff’s office said he also mentored new deputies and troopers throughout his career.
In a statement, the sheriff’s office remembered Miller for his work ethic, sense of humor and dedication to serving others.
“We miss you brother, and we will always love you,” the agency said.
The sheriff’s office asked the public to keep Miller’s family, friends and fellow law enforcement officers in their thoughts and prayers.
