JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI) – The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce is campaigning in support of the “YES For A Stronger Jackson” initiative ahead of the Aug. 4 ballot measure seeking voter approval of a 5% hotel tax.

Chamber officials said the proposed tax is intended to strengthen Jackson’s tourism economy while expanding community marketing, events and promotional efforts.

According to the chamber, the long-term goal of the initiative is to increase hotel promotion, strengthen local events, attract more visitors to area businesses and create sustainable funding for tourism and marketing initiatives. Supporters said the effort is designed to help Jackson remain competitive with surrounding communities investing in tourism and destination development.

“Tourism is a tremendous economic development tool, and the Jackson Chamber looks forward to promoting the events, attractions, and destinations that make Jackson a great place to visit,” Chamber representative Brian Gerau said in a statement.

Gerau said increased tourism could benefit hotels, restaurants, retailers and the local economy by bringing more visitors into the community.

More information about the initiative is available through the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce.
