JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KBSI) — Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe has ordered the dome of the Missouri State Capitol and the Missouri Law Enforcement Memorial to be lit blue this weekend in honor of fallen law enforcement officers.
The lighting will take place from sunset Friday, May 1, through sunrise Sunday, May 3, during annual ceremonies recognizing officers who died in the line of duty.
“The Missouri Capitol dome will shine blue this weekend as we honor and remember our state’s law enforcement heroes who have paid the ultimate price,” Kehoe said in a statement.
The annual Missouri Law Enforcement Candlelight Vigil is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday at the memorial on the north side of the Capitol, followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Officials said the names of two officers who died in 2025 have been added to the memorial’s Wall of Honor, bringing the total to 754.
Lt. Eddie A. Mays of the Bernie Police Department died June 5, 2025, after suffering a medical emergency while arresting a suspect. Officer Henry Franklin of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety was shot and killed Oct. 6, 2025, while assisting in serving an arrest warrant.
Families of the fallen and law enforcement agencies from across Missouri are expected to attend the ceremonies. Kehoe and Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway are scheduled to deliver remarks at Saturday’s service.
