Kennett man sentenced to 22 years for 2023 shooting

KENNETT, Mo. (KBSI) – A Kennett man was sentenced to 22 years in prison for a 2023 shooting that injured a person.

Jaheim Feltus, 21, of Kennett pleaded guilty to a shooting in the parking lot of the Walmart in Kennett. He was sentenced to 22 years in prison, according to Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Jain.

The Honorable Joshua Underwood sentenced Feltus to 22 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Law enforcement received calls of a shooting in the parking lot of the Kennett Walmart store around 11 a. .on March 8, 2023.

While police were on the way to the scene, the gunshot victim arrived at the Kennett Police Department. The victim was air lifted for treatment. He survived his injuries.

Feltus left the scene and was arrested soon afterward.

He told law enforcement officers that he saw his ex-girlfriend in a car with another man, so he shot into that vehicle hitting the man, according to Jain.

Feltus pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon for shooting into a vehicle causing injury.

The case was transferred to Pemiscot County.

Jain thanked the Kennett Police Department, Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol for their work in responding to the scene to arrest the suspect.
