MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — A man has been charged in connection with a 2025 theft investigation involving a stolen truck and more than $14,000 in cash, according to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies began investigating in August 2025 after a Kevil-area resident reported his truck and more than $14,000 in cash had been stolen from his property.

Using investigative technology, deputies tracked the vehicle to the Memphis International Airport parking lot. Working with airport police, investigators identified the suspect as JD McNew, 69, a relative of the victim.

During the investigation, deputies determined McNew was not in compliance with Kentucky’s sex offender registration requirements. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

McNew was arrested May 23 by the New Orleans Police Department on the outstanding warrant. After he was extradited to McCracken County, investigators said additional evidence led to theft-related charges.

McNew is charged with:

  •  Failure to comply with the sex offender registry, second offense, a Class C felony;
  •  Theft by unlawful taking over $10,000, a Class C felony; and
  •  Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to the sheriff’s office, McNew is a lifetime sex offender registrant stemming from a 1986 Missouri conviction for kidnapping, rape and sodomy. Authorities also noted he was charged with failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements in McCracken County in 2021.

The investigation remains ongoing.

McNew is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
