JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KBSI) — Gov. Mike Kehoe has proclaimed May as Beef Month in Missouri, recognizing the state’s cattle industry and its role in the economy.
Kehoe presented the proclamation to members of the Missouri Beef Industry Council, the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association and local producers during a ceremony at America’s Heartland Packing in Wright City.
“Cattle producers play an essential role in Missouri’s success,” Kehoe said in a statement.
State officials said beef production generates nearly $2 billion in sales annually and supports more than 40,000 jobs.
Missouri ranks third nationally in the number of beef cows, with nearly 2 million head, and remains a leading state in cattle production, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture.
Agriculture Director Chris Chinn said the industry is a key contributor to the state’s agricultural economy, while industry leaders highlighted the role of producers in supporting rural communities and providing food.
Officials said the proclamation recognizes the contributions of cattle producers across the state.
