JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI) — The new Deerwood roundabout at the intersection of North High Street and Deerwood Drive is expected to open to traffic later Wednesday, according to the City of Jackson.

City officials said the roundabout will be fully operational once opened, though some final construction work remains, including completion of a splitter island, additional seeding and pavement restriping.

The city said remaining work will be completed while traffic continues flowing through the intersection with minimal lane disruptions.

Construction-related lane restrictions, temporary traffic signals and detour routes are expected to be removed as all approaches reopen to normal traffic flow.

According to the city, the roundabout was designed to improve traffic flow, increase safety and enhance access for drivers traveling through the area.

The project also includes new sidewalk improvements; a crosswalk and pedestrian crossing signals aimed at improving pedestrian access to the Jackson Civic Center and Hubble Creek Trail.

The project was completed through a partnership with the Missouri Department of Transportation, with funding provided through a MoDOT cost-share agreement.

City officials are reminding drivers to slow down, yield to traffic already in the roundabout and follow posted signs and pavement markings when traveling through the intersection.
