PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — The Paducah Police Department has concluded its annual Junior Citizens’ Police Academy after a week of hands-on activities designed to introduce local youth to careers in law enforcement.

Throughout the week, participants learned about criminal investigations, evidence collection and processing, traffic stops, the department’s drone program, and the roles of the SWAT Team and Bomb Squad. Students also received firearms safety instruction.

One of the academy’s featured activities challenged participants to solve a mock crime by collecting, documenting and analyzing evidence. Students also designed custom academy T-shirts using water guns while reinforcing firearm safety principles.

The week concluded with a trip to see Toy Story 5 followed by a bowling outing.

The Paducah Police Department said the academy is held each year to strengthen relationships with young people, answer questions about law enforcement and encourage future community leaders through interactive learning experiences.
