Public hearings set for proposed Evergy Missouri Metro rate hike

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — The Missouri Public Service Commission announced a series of local public hearings for customers to comment on a proposed rate increase request from Evergy Missouri Metro.
Evergy Missouri Metro filed a request Feb. 6 seeking an annual increase of about $137.9 million in electric base rates. The utility serves approximately 313,000 customers in western Missouri.
The PSC scheduled two in-person hearings and two virtual hearings in July.
The first in-person hearing is scheduled for July 14 at Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley in Kansas City. A second in-person hearing will be held July 15 at the Martin Community Center in Marshall. Both hearings begin at 6 p.m. with a public information and question-and-answer session followed by public testimony.
Virtual hearings are scheduled for July 16 at noon and 6 p.m. Residents may participate by phone or online through WebEx.
The PSC said comments during the hearings may be time limited to allow broad public participation.
Residents unable to attend may submit written comments to the Missouri Public Service Commission by mail or through the agency’s online comment form. Comments should reference submission number ER-2026-0143.
The Office of the Public Counsel also is accepting comments and providing information to customers regarding the case. The agency represents the public in matters before the commission.
