McCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) — A vehicle pursuit Tuesday in McCracken County led to the arrests of two people and the seizure of suspected drugs and a firearm, according to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives said they attempted to stop a rental vehicle for a traffic violation around 12:20 p.m. on Cairo Road. The vehicle pulled into a residence on Palestine School Road, where the driver refused to identify himself and fled when asked to exit.
Authorities said the driver accelerated through a yard and back onto the roadway, prompting a pursuit. During the chase, he briefly stopped and discarded a handgun before continuing. Investigators said the driver ran stop signs, drove erratically and traveled at high speeds, creating a risk to the public.
The pursuit continued onto Tennessee Valley Authority property, where the vehicle crashed through a commercial fence and gate before becoming stuck in mud. The driver fled on foot but was taken into custody without further incident.
He was identified as Austin W. Draffen, 26, of Paducah. Investigators said they recovered about 141 grams of suspected methamphetamine near where he was arrested, along with the discarded handgun. A search of the vehicle also uncovered suspected hallucinogenic mushrooms.
Authorities said Draffen is a convicted felon and was prohibited from possessing a firearm. He was also driving on a suspended license at the time of the incident.
A passenger, Lorelei A. Rambeau, 28, of Benton, was also arrested. Investigators said a search of her belongings revealed about 32 grams of suspected methamphetamine and other contraband.
Draffen faces multiple charges, including fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, tampering with physical evidence and drug trafficking offenses. Rambeau is charged with drug trafficking, marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both were lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office at 270-444-4719 or submit an anonymous tip through West Kentucky Crime Stoppers.
