Scott County dispute continues; follow up hearing set for January 6

BENTON, Mo. (KBSI) – A dispute between the commissioners and the Scott County Sheriff’s Department is still ongoing, as it added yet another chapter in the prolonged battle for county-owned property, much to the chagrin of the taxpayers.

Friday afternoon, a hearing to move the Scott County Sheriff’s Department to above the Scott County Jail took place.

Judge Ed Reeves presided over the hearing, filing through a few notions at the beginning.

Amanda Oesch, the Scott County Prosecuting Attorney goes over the happenings in the court room, “He took the majority of those under review, one of the first motions was a continuance from today, he denied that and moved forward with the temporary restraining order today.”

The move will give the county the opportunity to renovate the present sheriff’s department into another much-needed courtroom.

Council has advised the county to not speak on the matter.

Sheriff Wes Drury and his council left the court before a statement could be made.

Oesch continues to say, “Commission can start working with the Sheriff, instead of being on opposing sides, so they can work together and work to make Scott County better.”

Judge Reeves called for a full hearing on Friday, January 6.

Oesch says, “We’re just looking to get some finality for the taxpayers and for Scott County.”
