Third Measles death in 2025 highlights importance of vaccination
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – The recent death of an 8-year-old unvaccinated child with no underlying health conditions from measles has raised concerns about the spread of the disease.
Measles is highly contagious, and unvaccinated children are more susceptible. According to the CDC, 1 in 5 children who contract measles will be hospitalized.
If exposed to measles, individuals should isolate and contact a doctor immediately.
Unvaccinated individuals can still receive the MMR vaccine up to 72 hours after exposure to help prevent or reduce the severity of infection.
Vaccination is the most effective way to avoid contracting measles.
According to the NIH, vaccinated individuals are 35 times less likely to get measles than those with no immunity.
Vitamin A does not prevent measles.
The MMR vaccine is the only way to prevent the disease.
During a measles outbreak, individuals should get vaccinated immediately, especially children over 12 months and unvaccinated or unsure adults.
The community is encouraged to prioritize health and make informed decisions about vaccination. Consult with a doctor for personalized guidance.
