UNION CITY, Tenn., (KBSI) — A former standout player has been named the new head volleyball coach at Union City High School, marking a milestone for the program.
School officials announced Abby Suiter as head coach of the Lady Tornadoes, becoming one of the program’s first alumni to return in a leadership role.
Suiter replaces Jessica Graham, who is stepping down to continue her education and teaching career. Graham, who coached the team for six seasons across two stints, leaves as the program’s all-time wins leader with an 88-56 record and three state tournament appearances.
Suiter, 23, was the program’s first college signee in 2021 after helping lead the team to the state tournament. She played at North Iowa Community College and Dickinson State University and most recently served as an assistant and junior varsity coach. She also led the school’s middle school program.
School officials said Suiter brings both high school and collegiate experience and a commitment to building on the program’s recent success.
Suiter said she is excited to return to her alma mater and hopes to serve as an example for students pursuing their passions.
She will be assisted by her father, Eddie Suiter, who has coached with the program in recent seasons.
Union City is coming off consecutive state tournament appearances and will look to rebuild after graduating eight seniors from last year’s team.
