MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – The U.S. 45 Ohio River “Brookport” Bridge between Paducah, Ky. and Brookport, Ill. has reopened after a dump truck crash Tuesday afternoon.

Initial reports indicated a small dump truck was trying to cross the bridge and has struck the bridge truss near the curve on the Illinois end of the structure. When deputies arrived to the crash site, they found it was a flat-bed truck that struck the bridge guardrail near the curve on the Illinois end of the structure – knocking the bed off the truck. The impact also knocked a trailer loose from the truck.

KYTC bridge inspectors conducted a safety inspection. Damage appeared to be limited to a guardrail along the bridge deck.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, Massac County Sheriff, and the City of Brookport helped to remove the truck, allowing the bridge to reopen fairly quickly.

The site is cleared.  The Brookport Bridge is open.
