1 arrested, police looking for 2nd suspect after home invasion in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – One person was arrested and Carbondale police are looking for a second suspect after a home invasion early Wednesday morning.

Carbondale police officers responded to the 1000 block of West Gher Street at 3:16 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12 regarding a home invasion.

Police say Dakota W. Mitchell, 31, of Carbondale and other unidentified suspects forced entry to the victim’s home.

The victim was battered by Mitchell and received minor injuries, according to police.

Mitchell and the other suspects ran from the home.

The victim fired shots at the suspects with a personal legally owned firearm.

Mitchell was later found in the area and was arrested.

Mitchell faces charges of home invasion, criminal damage to property, criminal trespass to residence, disorderly conduct and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

A second suspect was described as a male with a medium complexion wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

Police say there is no indication that any of the suspects were injured as a result of the victim firing shots.

Police say the incident is the result of a personal dispute between Mitchell and the victim.

Mitchell was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
