Tunk or Treating; is it safer than traditional trick or treating
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI)- Halloween is right around the corner, but many families may be reconsidering traditional trick or treating due to safety concerns…
Officer Bobby Newton with the Cape Girardeau Police Department says during Halloween officers will cover the streets a little more thoroughly during trick or treating hours.
Newton says, “We’ll have our regular officers out patrolling the roads, and they will put an extra emphasis on the roads when the kids are out trick or treating.”
Linda Gastreich, is the Reverend at Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau, the church is hosting a Trunk or Treat for Halloween, and she shares why she feels these events are safer for children and families versus traditional trick or treating.
Gastreich adds, “You don’t have to worry about your children running out on the street, lighting being weird, things like that, you just have a parking lot, lots of friendly people and it’s just easy for the kiddos to go up and gather up the candy.”
Trunk or treats have grown in popularity in recent years, providing another option for families who don’t feel comfortable with traditional trick or treating.
Gastreich, “I think it’s convenient, I know when my daughter was tiny, we would go out trick or treating and hit three houses and be done, and after all of that work you’re like wow we’re going back home now, with a costume and everything so it’s just easy.”
