Man faces charges after sheriff says he ran from authorities twice

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces multiple charges after attempting to flee from law enforcement multiple times, according to Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon.
Charles King, 40, of Granite City faces charges of aggravated assault, aggravated unlawful restraint, aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer, driving with a suspended/revoked license and violation of license classification.
On November 18 a Franklin County sheriff’s deputy said he tried to conduct a traffic stop on a motorcycle. However, upon seeing the patrol car the motorcyclist sped away. The deputy says he lost the motorcycle for a while and eventually found it lying in a roadway without a driver.
The next day deputies say they received a 911 call from a home on Benton Camp Road stating that a female was being held against her will by a man who was living at the home.
The female told deputies that the man ran into the wooded area. According to sheriff’s office, the deputies identified the man as the driver of the motorcycle from the previous night.
Franklin County Emergency Management Agency was asked to use a drone to locate the man in the wooded area and within minutes the drone was able to locate a heat signature that could be the suspect, according to Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies entered the wooded area and were able to use K9s to locate the man.
King is currently being held at the Franklin County Jail.
